It’s possible to have passion without obedience, truth without delight, or to worship God with both joy and reverence. As David brings the Ark to Jerusalem, the cart, the dance, and the window reveal three very different responses to God’s presence. The cave looks nothing like the throne, but it is exactly where God is forming David for it. God often does His greatest preparation in places where nobody else is watching. As David enters the story, Saul is living on what God did yesterday, Samuel is learning to obey God today, and David is quietly being prepared for tomorrow. Jared Patrick explores what it means to take the next step when God gives us a flashlight instead of a floodlight—and why faithfulness matters more than visibility, readiness, or outward appearance. God sees the heart, and no season of preparation is wasted.

Marriage does not become one in a moment—it learns oneness over a lifetime. As Song of Solomon moves beyond the wedding day, Jared traces how that oneness deepens through physical intimacy, conflict, new memories, mutual self-giving, and a covenant love that refuses to leave. Healthy marriage is not built by avoiding tension or living off old memories, but by continuing to pursue, honor, repair, and choose one another again and again. And beneath it all is a greater love: Christ’s covenant love, stronger than death and secure enough to hold us when ours falls short.

Our culture has become very good at weddings and increasingly confused about marriage. In Song of Solomon 3, Jared looks beyond the ceremony to the covenant being declared: “I am committed to you before God in all the ways that you’re going to change.” Marriage is not sustained by one great wedding day or by constantly changing feelings, but by ordinary days of sacrifice, faithfulness, repentance, forgiveness, and delight. Ultimately, every marriage points beyond itself to Christ—the faithful groom whose covenant love never fails his bride.

A godly woman is not defined by marriage, motherhood, appearance, or anyone else’s approval—her identity is rooted in Christ. In Song of Solomon 1, Jared highlights a woman who uses her words to give life, chooses wise friends, finds security beyond cultural standards of beauty, acknowledges her wounds without being defined by them, and speaks with courage. These are not five more standards to perform; they are signs of a life being changed from the inside out as she learns to rest in the worth Jesus has already secured for her.

Where do you run when trouble comes? Psalm 77 gives us an honest picture of Asaph wrestling with discouragement, questions, and even a felt distance from God—yet continuing to seek him. Charles focuses on two practices that anchor us in those seasons: remembering God’s faithfulness and meditating deeply on his truth. Rather than treating time with God like a microwave, we are invited to slow down, build “altars of remembrance,” and keep seeking the Lord even when our souls do not feel ready to be comforted.
